MEET KEMAL ERKAN
CEO and founder of United Medical, LLC

Kemal Erkan is CEO and founder of United Medical, LLC, and cofounder of the American Surgery Center. Since 2000, Mr. Erkan has worked in healthcare management and is a strong proponent in the areas of: Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Accountable Care Organization Management, Medical Practice Administration, and Medical Billing. Mr. Erkan holds a BS degree in Business Administration and Political Science from Ankara University in Turkey, and dual MBAs in Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Finance from Goldey-Beacom College in Delaware. He served on the Cerner™ Electronic Medical Record Advisory Board and the Cerner™ Practice Management Advisory Board. In addition, as a previous adjunct professor at Goldey-Beacom College, Mr. Erkan was instrumental in the development and delivery of an undergraduate and graduate program with a concentration in Healthcare Management.

During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Erkan started the weekly video series Delaware Health & Community Update on the United Medical YouTube channel to educate and inform fellow Delawareans about the COVID virus. He continues to record this series, but with a wider focus, covering a variety of topics of interest to Delawareans and the surrounding tristate area. He also presents an additional video series on the same channel entitled Bariatric Friday, which he presents along with his American Surgery Center cofounder, Dr. Irgau.
Mr. Erkan has been recognized for his outstanding work in the healthcare industry. In 2022, MGMA presented him with the Extraordinary Leader Award. The YWCA of Delaware also recognized Kemal in 2022 by presenting him with the Man of Distinction Award; the first of its kind. In addition to these achievements, Kemal’s consistent contributions to the healthcare industry were acknowledged in 2020 when he received the Lifetime Achievement Award and MGMA Rise Above Recognition Award. In November 2019, he was presented by TURKOFAMERICA Magazine with the Outstanding Achievement Award in Healthcare, as well as being recognized in 2018 by the American Turkish Society as a Young Society Leader.

Mr. Erkan's overall objective is to positively impact the lives of others through community advocacy and fostering meaningful partnerships. He is a current board member of the Brandywine Valley SPCA and supports several other nonprofits such as the Food Bank of Delaware and the YWCA of Delaware. He cofounded the Friends of Tigray & Turkiye Delaware nonprofit, which seeks to bring awareness and provide aid for those who are suffering from the genocide in Tigray, Ethiopia, and those impacted by earthquakes in Turkey.

Mr. Erkan lives in Greenville, Delaware. He enjoys domestic and international travel, entertaining friends, reading and playing tennis.

Kemal Erkan founded United Medical in November of 2005 with a vision focused on a patient-centered community, partnering with Cerner Corporation. United Medical began as a turnkey solution for healthcare providers focused on billing and healthcare information technology, which aimed to boost adaptation of electronic health records.

In 2012, United Medical emerged as one of the top private ambulatory health-care networks in Delaware and the Mid-Atlantic region.
