Kemal Erkan is the CEO and founder of United Medical, LLC, and the co-founder of the American Surgery Center. Since 2000, he has been a transformative force in the healthcare sector, particularly in advancing Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), Medical Practice Administration, and Revenue Cycle Management.

Mr. Erkan holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Political Science from Ankara University in Turkey. He also earned a second bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems and dual MBA degrees in Information Technology and Finance from Goldey-Beacom College in Delaware, where he will serve as the 2026 commencement speaker. He has served on the Oracle™ (Cerner™) EMR and Practice Management Advisory Boards and played a pivotal role as an adjunct professor in launching healthcare-focused academic programs at Goldey-Beacom College.



Public Health Communication and Community Engagement

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Erkan created the Delaware Health & Community Update, a video series hosted on the United Medical YouTube channel to provide vital, timely information to Delawareans. The platform continues to thrive with a wider mission and now includes Bariatric Friday, a weekly health education series co-hosted with Dr. Isaias Irgau, dedicated to issues surrounding obesity, surgical care, and long-term health.



UnitedTV and Community Outreach

In addition to his roles in healthcare and philanthropy, Mr. Erkan is the driving force behind UnitedTV, a YouTube channel that has grown to 225,000 subscribers. The channel engages the community in meaningful conversations on healthcare, public policy, U.S. politics, and global affairs. Programs like Bariatric Friday feature expert discussions, while the channel also explores a variety of social issues, reflecting Mr. Erkan’s commitment to fostering an informed and engaged audience.

Mr. Erkan currently serves as the Vice President of the Brandywine Valley SPCA Board, supporting initiatives to eliminate euthanasia and enhance animal welfare. His commitment to ending hunger is reflected in his role as a Development Committee Member for the Food Bank of Delaware, and he also serves on the Food is Medicine Committee. Additionally, he is a member of the Delaware YWCA’s Resilience Fund Advisory Board and the co-founder of Friends of Tigray, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting humanitarian efforts in the Tigray region.

Mr. Erkan is also recognized as a political specialist on various Turkish TV channels, where he participates in discussions about U.S.-Turkey relations, Middle Eastern affairs, and global diplomacy. Through his media presence, he offers insights that bridge his unique perspective as a Turkish-American leader.



Personal Life and Additional Roles

Beyond his professional and public service, Mr. Erkan is a registered journalist, as evidenced by his international press credentials, and he is the co-founder of Friends of Tigray, a nonprofit dedicated to humanitarian efforts in the Tigray region. He enjoys traveling, reading, and playing tennis in his spare time and remains committed to building a healthier, more just, and globally connected society.

Kemal Erkan founded United Medical in November of 2005 with a vision focused on a patient-centered community, partnering with Cerner Corporation. United Medical began as a turnkey solution for healthcare providers focused on billing and healthcare information technology, which aimed to boost adaptation of electronic health records.

In 2012, United Medical emerged as one of the top private ambulatory health-care networks in Delaware and the Mid-Atlantic region. United Medical is a multi-specialty network serving a nationwide client base of over 27 specialties and 135 practices -and growing! With a local network currently uniting more than 180 providers and 325,000 patients, United Medical is well on its way to changing the health-care landscape in Delaware.

As a full-service network, United Medical provides financial, IT infrastructure, consulting, and select multimedia services, which allow the practice to focus on increased quality of care and improved patient outcome.
